MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

Police say a man hit a bicyclist with his truck, then drove away. Around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Mandeville Police responded to the intersection of Monroe Street and Messina Street after a report of a traffic collision involving a pick-up truck and a bicycle. Officers found the injured cyclist conscious, lying on the side of the street.

He was taken by ambulance to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond for non-life threatening injuries. Investigators say the truck was traveling east on Monroe and the bicycle failed to yield as it was crossing over Monroe, traveling north on Messina. The pick-up hit the cyclist, who was identified as 60-year-old Robert Kaznowits of Mandeville.

A witness told police the driver of the truck left the scene. However, while officers were investigating they got a call from the pickup driver who reported the crash.

They picked up the driver in the 500 block of Wilkinson Street and subsequently linked the vehicle to the hit and run. The driver was identified as 65-year-old Steven P. Rice of Madisonville.

Police say they don't believe either party was impaired at the time of the accident. Rice received a citation for hit and run. Kaznowits received a citation for failure to yield. The investigation is ongoing.
