Kenner Police obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday for a man who allegedly abandoned his child during a narcotics stop.

Ron Adams, 35, whose last known address is in the 2600 block of Augusta Street, faces criminal abandonment.

On Monday, (Oct. 12) at 6:50 p.m., Kenner narcotics detectives were involved in a brief vehicle chase with Adams that led them into Metairie. Adams and passenger Corey Daniels, 39, of LaPlace, abandoned their vehicle on N. Howard and Shirley streets in Metairie, leaving the engine running and doors open, police said.

After a foot chase through a residential neighborhood, Daniels was eventually caught and found with 5.9 grams of heroin, according to police. Adams was able to escape apprehension.

When detectives returned to the vehicle, they discovered two small boys, ages 2 and 4, in the back seat. Both children were crying for their fathers. They were examined by EMTs and released to their respective family members, who had been called to the scene.

At the time of the offense, Adams was on active parole until May 2017 for felony carrying of firearms (two counts), aggravated flight from and officer, and aggravated battery.

Corey Daniels was arrested and booked with possession with the intent to distribute heroin and criminal abandonment.   Daniels remains in custody; no bond has been set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser urges anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Ron Adams to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
