MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

The eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 12 have been reopened, following a shutdown caused by a chemical leak Friday morning.

Department of Environmental Quality officials will remain onsite throughout the evening to monitor the area. The incident happened around 9:30 a.m.

Authorities in the Mandeville area have been investigating a small chemical leak at Diversified Foods & Seasonings. No injuries have been reported.

There is a faint smell of ammonia in the air the area, according to troopers.

The company, which supplies Popeye's restaurant spices, is located in the 1100 block of North Causeway Boulevard.

The leak closed a large stretch of Interstate 12 closed in both directions between Highway 445 and Highway 1077. Traffic was being diverted at Highway 190.

Other than the plant itself, no other evacuation has been ordered.
