Motorcyclist dies after two-vehicle crash on the North Shore

(WVUE) -

Update: after notifying his next of kin, Louisiana State Police identified the driver of the motorcycle as 51-year-old Morgan Ellsworth Welch of Shreveport.

The driver of a motorcycle died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on US-190 west of Hammond.

State Police responded to the accident shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Crash scene investigators say the motorcycle was traveling westbound on US-190 west of I-55, when the driver crossed into the eastbound lane and was struck head-on by an Isuzu Trooper driven by 32-year-old Robert Len Jones, Jr. of Springfield.

The motorcycle driver was wearing an approved helmet, but died of injuries sustained in the crash. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner pronounced him dead on the scene. His name will not been released until his next-of-kin are notified.

Jones provided the troopers on the scene with a breath sample, and investigators say there were no traces of alcohol. The motorcycle driver’s blood will be tested at the LSP Crime Lab for impairment. No charges are pending at this time.
