NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A crash near the French Quarter claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman.
It happened Thursday at 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Governor Nicholls Street.
A 56-year-old man was driving a green 2006 Chrysler Town and Country minivan eastbound on Interstate 10 when exiting onto Esplanade Avenue. As his vehicle entered N. Claiborne Ave. and Gov. Nicholls St., he collided with a gold 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan that was traveling towards the river on Gov. Nicholls St., New Orleans police said.
The Dodge flipped over and woman was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Chrysler was not injured.
The 51-year-old driver and 47-year-old woman in the front passenger seat of the Dodge were not injured. The driver was taken to the DWI complex for testing. Results of the test are pending.
The Orleans Parish coroner will release the victim's name and will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
