Motorcyclist killed in St. Charles Parish crash

DESTREHAN, LA (WVUE) - A St. Charles Parish man riding a motorcycle died Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle, according to Louisiana State Police.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. and claimed the life of 47-year-old Frederick Bailey III of Montz.

Police say Bailey was driving a 2009 Yamaha YZFR east on Airline Highway approaching East Harding Street in St. Charles Parish.

A 2011 Chevrolet HHR pulled out of East Harding Street and attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of Airline Highway.  Bailey laid the motorcycle down as the Chevrolet pulled into the path of the Yamaha.  Both Bailey and the motorcycle struck the Chevrolet on the driver's side. The Chevrolet was being driven by Cliff Williams, age 38, of Destrehan.

Bailey, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene.  Williams, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.  Williams submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.
