The St. Tammany Parish coroner says a burglary suspect was shot seven times by deputies, and he was suffering from several dog bites.
Officers killed 30-year-old Darien Greenwood after an hours-long pursuit and a search in the woods just north of Mandeville. He was accused of burglarizing a house off of Highway 1088.
Greenwood was shot twice in the upper-left back, once in the chest and also in his arms and leg. He was also bitten by K-9 Deputy Thor on the right side of his chest.
Sheriff Jack Strain said deputies shot Greenwood after he tried to stab an officer, and ended up stabbing Thor.
Thor is recovering from surgery performed on Wednesday
Greenwood's alleged accomplice, 22-year-old Dean Perkins, was booked with one count of simple burglary.
