COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) -

An unidentified driver died on US 190 Thursday morning after colliding with an 18-wheeler.

According to State Police, 49-year-old Gustavo Morales was driving an 18-wheeler southbound on US 190 when he cut off a driver at the intersection of Park Place Drive. Police say Morales ran a red light while making a u-turn and cut off a Chevrolet Metro. The driver of the Chevrolet Metro, whose name has not been released, died after being transported to Lakeview Hospital by EMS.

The unidentified driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash according to State Police.

Police do not suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash. Gomez was tested at the scene and had no alcohol in his system. Troopers charged Gomez with Ignoring Traffic Control and Negligent Homicide. The crash remains under investigation.
