NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of a 37-year-old female.
The crash happened around 5:00 a.m. at the intersection of North Claiborne and Kerlerec Street.
According to the NOPD, a 29-year-old female driver of a black 2007 Jeep Compass was traveling westbound on North Claiborne Avenue when she hit a female pedestrian.
The Jeep continued down North Claiborne Avenue to Orleans Avenue with the victim on top of her vehicle by the windshield.
The driver, identified as Quintella Williams, then got on the I-10 West on ramp at the Orleans Avenue before coming to a stop on top the Interstate.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene
The driver of the Jeep was not injured in the incident. Police say she tested above the legal alcohol limit. She was booked with hit and run and vehicular homicide.
The incident remains under investigation and once complete, it will be forwarded to the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office for review.
The victim's identity has not been released.
