Metairie playground coach arrested for rape, sexual battery

James Prince, 44 James Prince, 44

A Metairie playground coach is behind bars on charges of rape and sexual battery, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested 44-year-old James Prince at his home Friday.

On Oct. 19, detectives began a follow-up investigation into sexual abuse allegations involving two brothers. The two alleged victims told investigators the incidents occurred when one was either eight or nine years of age and the other 10 or 11 years of age.

They both told investigators the incidents occurred around 2003.  Both victims identified James Prince, a coach at Girard Playground in Metairie.

These incidents allegedly occurred while both boys were involved in sports being coached by Prince at the playground.

The victims said Prince would show them pornographic movies while prompting them to masturbate with him. The younger victim also told Investigators that Prince performed oral sex on him.

Investigators soon discovered there was a third young male victim who reported that Prince sexually abused him in the same fashion. Victim three also reported that Prince, at one time, had videos of sexual acts between he and other young boys.

Based on the findings of their investigation, detectives issued arrest warrants for Prince charging him with one count of Aggravated Rape and three counts of Sexual Battery.

On Friday, Prince was taken into custody outside of his residence. He was transported the JPSO investigations bureau for questioning.  Once there, Prince admitted knowing all three victims. He elected to invoke his right to an attorney and refuse to answer any additional questions.

Based on the complexity of the investigation, and the fact that James Prince had contact with many young children while coaching throughout the years, the JPSO is asking anyone who may have information that could be beneficial to this investigation that they please contact Lieutenant Curtis Matthews at 504-364-5297.
