NOPD: Officer shot in Desire neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating the shooting of an off-duty NOPD officer in the Desire neighborhood. The incident occurred Sunday night around 7:47 p.m. in the 3300 block of Alvar Street.

According to police, Commander Derek Frick is in stable condition at University Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury. NOPD said Frick was driving an unmarked vehicle and was not in uniform at the time of the shooting.

Police say that the incident may have been a drive by shooting. The suspect vehicle has been described as a brown or gold-colored SUV, possibly a Chevrolet or GMC. Police say that Frick was shot in the neck and was able to pull over. Two nearby citizens helped notify EMS.
