Woman accused of abducting 8-year-old from Ruston arrested by police

RUSTON, LA (WVUE) -

The woman accused of abducting an 8-year-old boy and starting a state-wide search is in police custody.

Officers arrested Sommer Hattaway around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 26 according to the Ruston Police Department.

An Amber Alert was issued on Sunday, Oct. 25, after 8-year-old Dakota Knox was abducted from a motel in Ruston. According to State Police, Knox was asleep in the back seat of a car that was stolen from the parking lot of the Lincoln Motel. Police believe 23-year-old Hattaway is behind the car theft and kidnapping.

The Amber Alert ended when Knox was found around 9 p.m. Sunday night in Ouachita Parish. Police say Knox is unharmed and will be reunited with this family.

Hattaway, 23, will be booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Kidnapping.
