NEW ORLEANS (NEW ORLEANS) - Locals who want to get married in the catholic church have new rules to follow.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans has changed its marriage preparation process, forcing couples to meet at least twice with a deacon or priest. The meetings need to be scheduled six to eight months before the wedding.
Another change involves the church's formal program for engaged couples. That program has been expanded from one day to two days to give couples time to discuss what they've learned.
The archdiocese thinks the new rules will help provide a uniform spiritual and social support system for couples.
