NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police found a car that was stolen from a homicide victim in Chalmette Tuesday evening.
Officers made the discovery Wednesday night under the St. Claude Bridge, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Police saw smoke coming from under the bridge ramp on its eastern side. They saw a silver Chevrolet Impala engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished blaze.
The license plate was still on the car. It belonged to Keith Guerra, 30, who was shot to death before his car was stolen by at least two individuals.
The car has been turned over to the sheriff's office.
A deputy who lived nearby the shooting heard gunfire at about 7:20 p.m. and found Guerra near Palmisano Boulevard and Missouri Street.
Investigators do not believe the shooting was random. They think the assailants targeted the victim and followed him from New Orleans.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the second man who was in Guerra's car. He suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Anyone with information on the murder should call the Sheriff's Office at 504-271-2501 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
