(WVUE) - If you can work in a little fishing around the storms this weekend, you won't have to go far to hit a hot spot.
If you can find Campo's marina in shell beach, you can find great fishing before the rains gets here. Robbie Campo, Capt. Jacques Labrouer and I ran about two minutes from the launch up the former MRGO towards New Orleans. We fished along the shore of the controversial canal.
Almost anywhere there was a point or pocket or a few rocks, there were tons of speckled trout. The specks weren't alone - a few bigger fish found our baits as well.
All told, we burned less than two gallons of gas and never left sight of the Campo's home base. The best news is this fishing should be around even after the weekend's rain passes.
