Police: 'Holy Spirit' helps find missing vehicle

THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) -

Thibodaux police say they found a missing car in a ditch with the driver still inside. The owner of the car said a word from the "Holy Spirit" helped him track down who was allegedly behind the whole thing.

The owner's son Rashon Maize, 18, was behind the wheel.

Thibodaux police found Maize Sunday inside a red 2015 Chrysler 200 in a ditch in the 200 Block of Sanders Street. Investigators say he jumped from the driver's seat to the back seat when he spotted officers.

Maize's father was already at the police department filing a complaint when officers found the vehicle in the ditch.

The father said he was led to file the complaint after he got a telephone call while he was sleeping from his girlfriend, who said the "Holy Spirit" told her the 18-year-old on took the vehicle from his home.

Police say Maize took the rental vehicle without permission from his father's girlfriend to go to a party.

This was the second time in 24 hours Maize took the vehicle without permission. The first time, he was stopped by Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's deputies for reckless operation. Maize was arrested and is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
