SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith gave the OK for his officers to stop shaving during the month of November.

Smith says officers can put away the razors if they pledge to donate $25 to an organization that promotes cancer awareness, research or support.

"The idea is to raise awareness for men's health concerns, particularly prostate cancer, where one in six men will be diagnosed in their lifetime with the disease," Chief Smith said.

In an effort to get members of the public to join in, Slidell Police says citizens who participate will be featured on Facebook to show off their "cop staches!"
