Man accused of stealing $1200 in booze & cigarettes

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A 20 year old man has been arrested, accused of stealing hundreds of dollars in cigarettes and alcohol from a Houma grocery store.  London Tanner is accused of burglarizing the Cannata's Food Market on Prospect Avenue, just a couple of hours before it opened for business.

Tanner, who is from Houma, was apparently spotted behind the store around 5 am.  When police questioned him, he stated that he was smoking a cigarette and relaxing.

Houma Police then contacted Cannata's management who were able to review the store's surveillance video.  The video reportedly showed Tanner breaking into the grocery store through a front entrance.

Police say after he broke in, he started grabbing cigarettes and alcohol and stashing the loot behind the store.  Investigators say they recovered $1200 worth of stolen liquor and cigarettes..

Tanner was arrested for Simple Burglary. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for booking..
