Woman charged with killing husband, stabbing dogs

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 62-year-old woman will be charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbed her husband to death.

The NOPD says Brenda Jacobs fatally stabbed her 63-year-old husband, Billie Ray Jacobs, in their home on the morning Oct. 30.

New Orleans Emergency Medical Services and the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a call on Friday morning to the 2300 block of Dumaine Street. NOFD had to knock the door down to enter the home, police said. Once inside, they found a 63-year-old man stabbed to death.

During a subsequent search, investigators found a note at the scene written by Brenda Jacobs indicating the couple was about to lose their home and that she "killed her husband and their dogs so they could be at peace."

Relatives attempted to contact the couple and went to the house, where they saw Billie Ray Jacobs slumped in a kitchen chair covered in dried blood. When authorities searched the scene, they found a large blood-stained kitchen knife on the table next to the victim.

Investigators believe Billie Ray Jacobs had been dead for at least 48 hours before he was found.
