Titans fire head coach Ken Whisenhunt

NASHVILLE, TN (WVUE) - The Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt, the team announced on its website Tuesday.

The team wants to go in a different direction, according to the report.

The Titans play the Saints in the Superdome Sunday at noon.

Mike Mularkey, who was the assistant head coach/tight ends coach, was named interim coach by the Titans.

"After thoughtful consideration, the decision has been made to relieve Ken Whisenhunt of his head coaching duties," said Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk. "We have expected more progress on the field, and I felt it was time to move in a different direction. I would like to thank Ken for his efforts with our team, as he worked very hard to try to move us forward."

Whisenhunt's record with the Titans was 3-20. The team has lost 16 or its last 17 games.
