(WVUE) - A bevy of butchers unsheathed their cutlery in Madisonville Tuesday for the first round of the National Meat Cutting Challenge.
Twenty-one professional meat cutters from around the region are competing for the top prize of $20,000. The competition is located at Champagne Beverages in Madisonville.
The contest is judged on the number and quality of the steaks prepared and the time it takes to finish. Each contestant starts with 30-40 pounds of beef, including two sirloins, 1 filet and one ribeye.
Three challengers will advance out of Madison to the semi-finals in Orlando, Fla.
