METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Getting knocked over by airborne produce may be less likely at the St. Patrick's Irish-Italian parades in Metairie.
The Jefferson Parish Council will consider a measure today that would require float riders toss all food items underhand to avoid injuries to parade watchers along the route.
The proposal would also ban throwing overhand during Mardi Gras parades too. While produce is rarely thrown during Carnival, large bags of beads do make their way to the crowds and can injure revelers who aren't paying close attention to the passing parade.
If the changes are approved, a $500 fine would be levied on parade organizers that do not adhere to the new rules.
