TPSO: suspect stole $20,000 worth of items from storage units

TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office arrests a man accused of stealing from mini-storage units.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says on Friday, Oct. 30, around 5 a.m., a white male in a Ford Ranger burglarized a mini storage at the Blue Marlin Storage facility on Hollywood Road. Multiple units at a facility across the street were burglarized during the previous weekend. Items stolen included generators, fishing equipment, tools and a motorized bicycle.

Detectives obtained surveillance video and posted it on social media. Someone saw the video and called Crimestoppers to identify the suspect as 45-year-old Sidney Richard of Thibodaux. While recovering evidence connected with the burglaries in Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish sheriff's patrolmen spotted Richard in his vehicle on Bayou Blue. When the LPSO deputies tried to pull him over, he refused to stop and a pursuit occurred.

After a brief pursuit, Richard was taken into custody and booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention center on various traffic offenses. Richard will be transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he will be booked on multiple counts of simple burglary. So far, investigators say they've tied Richard to 10 burglaries.

Detectives are sorting through hundreds of items recovered that are believed to be stolen by Richard during the burglaries. They say they have about $20,000 worth of items in custody. Detectives say they'll let victims know when to come recover their stolen property.
