Investigators say 26-year-old Steven Shawn Clark of Theodore, Alabama was killed when his 18-wheeler crashed through an I-10 bridge barrier and went into the water Tuesday night at the Louisiana-Mississippi state line.

Police suspect the driver of a black pick-up truck tried to pass illegally on the shoulder. That caused a second 18-wheeler to swerve into Clark's truck.

Authorities say it could be days before the truck can be pulled from the Pearl River. Special equipment is needed to extract the vehicle.

The accident shut down I-10 and snarled traffic both ways for several hours.
