Paris Road reopens after police capture second suspect

CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) -

All lanes of Paris Road LA 47 are open in both directions after a lengthy manhunt by police.

The incident began about 1:30 p.m. when agents of the Special Investigations Division tried to stop two men in a vehicle.

According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office, both subjects jumped out of the vehicle around on Paris Road in Chalmette around the Orleans Parish line. One was quickly caught by authorities while the other ran south of Paris Road. After a lengthy search, the Sheriff's Office captured the second suspect along with a weapon around 6:30 p.m.

Both suspects were booked with possession of a stolen gun found in the car, flight from officers and a marijuana charge according to the SBPSO.

The attempted traffic stop was part of an ongoing narcotics investigation that has already yielded the seizure of heroin, other drugs, three guns and several hundred dollars in cash.

No details were given on the suspects identities. Fox 8 will continue to update this story as it develops.
