Suspected gunman sought in June murder

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police are trying to track down a 21 year old man, wanted in a June murder in New Orleans east.  Following months of investigating, detectives with the New Orleans Police Department have been able to identify Robert Mitchell as a suspect in the June 3, 2015 shooting near the intersection of  Francis Drive and Ransom Street.

Officers were called out to that area after reports that there was a man down in the middle of  the street.  The victim was later identified as 21-year-old Brandon Sorapuru.   The NOPD says when officers arrived, they found Sorapuru suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. EMS technicians arrived and made multiple attempts to resuscitate Sorapuru, but were unsuccessful.

NOPD obtained an arrest warrant for Mitchell.  When he's apprehended, he'll face charges of second degree murder.

If you have information that can help police with Mitchell's request, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.  You could receive a cash reward of up to $2,500.
