Interstate crash kills 3 from New Orleans area

Louisiana State Troopers have identified a third person killed in Saturday night's crash on Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish.

Troopers say 22-year-old Michael Dunns of New Orleans was killed in the one-car crash, along with two other people from the metro area.  The other victims were identified earlier as 18-year-old Jashon Butler of New Orleans and 18-year-old Donald Allen of Bridge City, LA.  The lone survivor of the crash was also identified as 18-year-old Carleisha Mosley of New Orleans.

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A say the fatal crash happened around 8:30 pm on November 7, 2015 on Interstate 10 east of US Hwy 61 in Sorrento.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as the 2003 Saturn L200 was traveling westbound on Interstate 10. For unknown reasons, the driver of the vehicle lost control and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck several trees and began to overturn. The vehicle then came to rest on its roof, partially submerged in a canal.

Three occupants in the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office. A fourth occupant was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with moderate injuries. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology test will be conducted on the driver. Further investigation also revealed that none of the occupants in the vehicle were restrained.

The crash remains under investigation.  Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Police Troop A at (225)754-8500.
