Family and friends were somber as they walked into the Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg on Monday.

The heartbreaking image of the small white casket carried out by family members marked the end of the funeral as the procession proceeded to Jeremy Mardis' final resting spot in Mississippi.

Marksville Police officers and Ward 2 City Marshal Deputies 32-year-old Derrick Stafford and 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr. are currently accused of shooting and killing the 6-year-old and critically wounding his father after a Nov. 3 car chase.

Mardis' father, Chris Few, was not in attendance, and while officials say his condition is improving, they note he is still unaware of his son's death.

A judge issued a gag order late Monday afternoon prohibiting investigators, attorneys and others involved in the pending criminal trial from discussing the case with the media.

On Monday morning, Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Doug Anderson said the investigation would not be taken lightly.

"There is no dirty business that happens around here. This thing is handled correctly. Just like all other things are handled correctly in this community. This is a small community with good, honest people and this kind of mess doesn't go on," Sheriff Anderson said.
