Suspect search closes several blocks in Bayou St. John

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - An armed robbery turned into a police chase and then a foot search that closed off several blocks in the Bayou St. John neighborhood Monday.

The robbery happened at about 5 p.m. at Urquhart and Mandeville streets, where the victims were able to give a description and license plate of the vehicle. Fifth District officers spotted the vehicle at St. Bernard Avenue and N. Roman Street, but when officers activated their police lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off.

Officers chased the vehicle to the 1200 block of of N. Gayoso Street, where the vehicle crashed into a parked car.

One female was being detained, and two males fled on foot into the neighborhood. Officers and K-9 units were searching the area, but the suspects appeared to have escaped from the perimeter set up by police.

The vehicle was reported stolen in an armed robbery and carjacking Saturday on Race Street.

Detectives are questioning the female and the investigation is ongoing.
