Allen Toussaint, New Orleans music legend, dies at 77

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint has died, according to his daughter. He was 77.

The legendary songwriter and producer died last night while touring in Europe. The cause of death was a heart attack, according to a report from the Associated Press.

For decades he brought New Orleans-style rhythm and blues to the rest of the country.

In 1998 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Two years ago a bronze statue of Toussaint was unveiled at Musical Legends Park on Bourbon Street.

His statue joined the likenesses of other legends like Fats Domino, Ronnie Kole, and Irma Thomas.
