Crimestoppers tip leads to drug and firearm arrests

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department says a tip to Crimestoppers about illegal drug activity helped them make two arrests.

The NOPD assisted Louisiana Probation and Parole officers with the arrests of 22-year old Samuel Van and 22-year old Amy Herrera.

LPP officers conducted a check of the home in the 2300 block of Gravier Street on Nov. 9 and smelled a strong odor of marijuana. Officers said they found more than three pounds of marijuana, three packets of cocaine, 100 Ecstasy tablets, 30 Tramadol pills and 28 grams of MDMA, a .38 caliber revolver and approximately $5,400 in cash.

Van was booked with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute Ecstasy, possession of a firearm by a felon and probation violation.

Herrera was booked with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute Ecstasy and possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics.

Both were taken to Central Lockup.
