Former New Orleans police officer sentenced for theft of Road Home money

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced Tracie Medus, 40, of New Orleans, was sentenced today after having previously pleaded guilty to theft from the Louisiana Road Home program.

Medus is a former New Orleans police officer.

U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon sentenced Medus to three years probation, including one year house arrest. Medus was also ordered to pay $158,700 in restitution.

According to the FBI, Medus admitted she defrauded the federally funded Small Rental Property Program, a Louisiana Road Home program to enable low-income families displaced by Hurricane Katrina to return to Louisiana.

The program gave money to landlords to repair rental units for approved low-income tenants.
