St. Charles Parish posts 'shelter in place' alert for parts of Luling

(WVUE) -

St. Charles Parish has posted a message from its Emergency Operations Center on its Facebook page.

The post reads:

"EOC ALERT: Due to a potential explosive hazard in the storm sewer system, St. Charles Parish is asking all residents of Courville Dr. and residents of the 800 block of Collier Dr. in Luling to shelter-in-place immediately as a precaution. Please extinguish all ignition sources."

A spokesman said the source is not known, but there is an odor in the system. Luling Fire Chief Craig Petit said the alert was posted out of an abundance of caution.

Questions can be directed to the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center at (985) 783-5050 24 hours a day.
