FOLSOM, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a two vehicle crash in Folsom that claimed the life of a Metairie woman. The incident occurred Sunday, just before 1 p.m. on Highway 25 just north of Highway 40.
Police say that Sandra M. Buras was driving an SUV south on Hwy 25 when for unknown reasons, her vehicle crashed in the back of a pickup truck driven by 58-year-old Mable Starnes Chaney of Franklinton. After the impact, the SUV ran off the road to the right prior to hitting a ditch. The vehicle then became airborne and rolled onto its side.
Investigators say that Buras was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from the SUV. She was transported via helicopter to St. Tammany Parish Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Investigators say that Chaney was wearing her seat belt and was not injured.
Troopers do not believe that impairment played a factor in the crash. Blood samples were taken and will be analyzed at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
