Heavy rains slow the commute in metro New Orleans

(WVUE) - The rains moving across the area are slowing the commute and causing scattered power outages.

Around to 600 Entergy customers in New Orleans are out of power. The majority of those without power are in Gentilly. Entergy is saying they hope to have power restored by 6 a.m.

Lower St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes are under a tornado watch until 9 a.m. But it could expire sooner.

The rains are also affecting the morning commute. Drivers are asked to allow extra time for travel.

The interstates are very slick and traffic lights out in Kenner on Joe Yenni at Chateau.

There is also an accident at I-10 West at Canal has moved to the shoulder.

Due to high winds no motorcycles are currently allowed on the Causeway.

I-12, I-55 and the Twin Span are all currently clear.
