Thibodaux man arrested after 'Motion Picture' money doesn't pay the bills

THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - A Thibodaux man was arrested Tuesday after buying drugs with a fake $100 bill that someone then tried to use in a transaction at City Hall, according to Police Chief Bryan Zeringue.

Detrell Coleman, 20, was booked with monetary instrument abuse and on a warrant for theft of a firearm.

Police said just before 11:30 a.m., someone went to City Hall to pay a utility bill with a fake $100 that had for "Motion Picture Use Only" on both sides of as well as other markings.

Through investigation, police were led to Floyd Duncan, who said he gave the money to his aunt to help her pay her bill. Duncan said he got the bill when he sold some of his prescription medication to Coleman the night before.

Police learned that Coleman had an active warrant out of Thibodaux for gun theft. He was arrested outside of his Church Street home and released from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center after posting $5,500 bond.
