Belle Chasse lockup to be dedicated in honor of fallen deputy

BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) - Sheriff Lonnie J. Greco, Sr. invites the public to join him and other deputies and their families as they celebrate the dedication of the Belle Chasse Lockup in honor of Plaquemines Parish Deputy Douglas James "Jimmy" Landry.

The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, from 10 am until noon at the Belle Chasse Lockup, located at 104 Avenue G.

Food and refreshments will be served.

On May 30, 1972, Deputy Landry was killed in the line of duty during a traffic crash just south of Belle Chasse.

Deputy Landry joined the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office on July 30, 1956.

He served with the Sheriff's Office for 16 years as a Patrol and Civil Deputy.

Greco says dedicating the lockup facility in memory of  Deputy Landry is one way of remembering how his contributions to the Sheriff's Office and the community will never be forgotten.
