National Peanut butter fudge day

National Peanut butter fudge day

It's National Peanut Butter Fudge Day.  For many Americans fudge is one of the most popular sweet treats that goes back decades.  Historians say the origin of fudge dates back to the 1800s. Back then when people used the word fudge it mean't someone messed up.  As the story goes; one day a chef accidentally " fudged" a batch of caramel transforming it into the soft sweet confection we know today as fudge.

While today is dedicated to Peanut Butter Fudge consumption, you can also find fudge in a variety of flavors ranging from fruits, caramel and chocolate. Fudge is comprised of sugar, butter and milk and is usually smooth with a creamy consistency.

Pastry Chefs also say that many people may not know that you can freeze fudge.  So if you pickup a batch and can't finish it;  store it in an airtight package and keep it for next year's National Fudge day because if frozen properly it can last a year without losing any of its flavor.
