MORGAN CITY, LA (WVUE) -

An investigation is underway into counterfeit money that's making it way to several businesses in Morgan City.  Police detectives have arrested one woman and believe others are involved in the counterfeit scheme.

Morgan City Police describe the fake bills as "prop money" that is often used in the television and movie production shoots.  Detectives say they started seeing some of the phony bills turn up at several locations, including a local bar.  Police received a description of the woman who reportedly passed off one of the counterfeit bills and later identified her as 22 year old Varnisha August.

August was located in the area of Federal Ave. and Belanger Streets where she was detained for questioning.  Investigators say August admitted to using the counterfeit money.  She was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked on a charge of monetary instrument abuse.  Morgan City Police say they are continuing to investigate and expect more arrests in this case.  .
