NOPD officer among two injured in Ninth Ward auto accident

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating an automobile accident in the Ninth Ward that left an NOPD officer and another person injured. The incident occurred Tuesday, just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Congress Street.

According to police, NOPD Sgt. Roderick Franklin was driving his marked unit westbound on North Claiborne Avenue when unidentified man, who was driving a Mazda, failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the officer to crash into the man's car.

Both men were brought to the hospital. Sgt. Franklin received minor injuries in the crash, while the man's are believed to be serious, police say.
