Ponchatoula woman jailed for shooting boyfriend with rifle

PONCHATOULA, LA (WVUE) - A Ponchatoula woman is behind bars for shooting her boyfriend in the stomach with an assault rifle, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

Police say 32-year-old Winter Flowers and the victim, 38-year-old Monroe Meyers, were involved in an argument at their home when Meyers allegedly threatened Flowers with the assault rifle.

After a brief struggle, Flowers stated that Meyers put the gun down on the bed, at which time she picked it up.

Meyers was accused of rushing toward Flowers while grabbing for the gun. Flowers told police she became frightened and shot him.

Monroe Meyers is in critical condition.

Flowers has been charged with second degree aggravated battery.  During the time of arrest, Flowers was found to be in possession of numerous illegal narcotics and was additionally charged with possession of CDS IV, possession of CDS II, possession of a fire arm while in possession of a CDS, and possession of a fire arm with an obliterated serial number.
