Boil water advisory issued for parts of Lafourche Parish

THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - The Lafourche Parish Water District experienced a drop in water pressure in the North Lafourche area due to a mainline leak.

Because of this, the water from Tiger Drive (in Thibodaux) to the Assumption Parish Line is possibly contaminated.

As a precaution, the district is issuing a boil advisory effective immediately for all customers between Tiger Dr. and the Assumption Parish Line.  This boil advisory is to remain in effect until lifted.

Residents in the affected area are advised to disinfect their water before drinking it, making ice, brushing teeth, using it for food preparation (including fountain drinks), and for rinsing food.

Water should be boiled (at a rolling boil) for one minute in a clean container. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that boiled.

Be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until the ban is lifted.

The boil advisory will be lifted after the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals finds the water to be bacteria-free.
