GRETNA, LA (WVUE) -

Jefferson Parish and Councilman Chris Roberts face a lawsuit over an ordinance.

Businessman Greg Buisson claims Roberts over-extended his authority to draft the ordinance that intentionally targeted Buisson and his company's long-standing contracts with the parish, because he also has a prominent role in consulting for political campaigns in Jefferson Parish.

Buisson's company has handled events for the parish's convention and visitors bureau, Lafreniere Park and he was involved in providing carnival reviewing stands.

Buisson is seeking damages and wants the ordinance declared unconstitutional.

Roberts said he does not believe someone doing public relations work should do political work as well. He added that New Orleans has had similar restrictions for years now.

The council passed the ordinance 5-2.
