COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - Every holiday season different law enforcement agencies offer a ride-home program to keep people safe. The Covington Police Department is the first, this season, to announce that if patrons of Covington businesses don't have a safe and sober ride home, they can call the police department and an officer will take them home.
"We want people to be able to come to Covington and have a good time, but we also want them to have a safe ride home. Our number one priority is to protect the innocent," Chief Tim Lentz said. "If we can prevent someone from getting behind the wheel when they shouldn't, we have achieved our goal."
Covington Police say during the holiday season to get a ride home, within a reasonable distance from businesses inside the city limits, people can call 985-892-8500.
