BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - Facing a misdemeanor domestic abuse battery charge, La. State Sen. Troy Brown, will step down as vice chairman of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee.
Brown will relinquish the post until his legal issues are resolved.
Brown is accused of punching a woman in the face as she was waiting for an elevator in the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Loyola Avenue.
Brown issued a statement saying an automobile accident from 1991 has impaired his short-term memory, rendering him unable to recall the events of the evening in question. Brown said intends to consult with doctors to examine the problem in greater depth.
