Free first-come, first-served trees available for N.O. residents

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Yards in need of a tree can meet their match.   

The City of New Orleans will give away free trees Saturday, December 5.

Up to 1,000 trees are available. Each household is eligible for two free trees while supplies last. Additional trees will be available for purchase at a cost of $15 each for most, $35 each for fruit trees. 


The "Big TREEsy Giveaway" takes place from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Department of Parks and Parkways, behind Dillard University at 2829 Gentilly Boulevard.  

There will be thirty types of trees to choose from, including Live Oak, Crape Myrtles, Southern Magnolias and more. 

Parks and Parkways staff members will be on hand to answer questions about tree choice and planting.  The event will also feature guest lecturers and activities for children.  


The "Big TREEsy Giveaway" is a project of the Department of Parks and Parkways, Entergy, the NOLA Tree Project and the Sewerage and Water Board.
