After losing son, mom gives to family in need

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A mother whose 7-year-old wheelchair-bound son died in October has found a way to bring joy to another family.

Braden Bruce's mother, Julie, has donated a handicap-accessible van to the mother of another child who needs it.

"Mathew would make my son laugh every time he would see him," said Julie Bruce. "He'd go to birthday parties and get-togethers."

Julie donated the van to the family of Mathew Otto, a spina bifida patient who was a friend of her son. The original van was donated to her from Chive Charities.

Mathew was surprised when he saw the van outside Crescent Vans in Harahan. His mother was in desperate need of a new way to get around. Her old van is in need of repair.

Judy Otto said she's grateful for the gift. Her son sees it as the best Christmas present ever.

"What do you think?" Judy Otto asked her son. "Isn't this a beautiful van?"

"It is, mama, it really is," Mathew said.
