NOPD officer injured in Metairie crash dies in hospital

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

An NOPD officer hospitalized after crashing into a pole in Metairie passed away Friday.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, Sgt. Mike Marziale, a 43-year NOPD veteran, died in the hospital on Dec. 4.

The crash occurred on Nov. 25. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, witnesses saw a white four-door Kia SUV driving in the 2800 block of Richland Avenue around 12:35 p.m. when it suddenly went off road and struck a pole. When officers arrived on scene, they found the car overturned on the side of the road with Sgt. Marziale semi-conscious behind the wheel.

Marziale was taken to the University Medical Center for treatment where he later died.
