NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Saints took the field Sunday looking to bounce back after falling to Houston last week, but they had their work cut out for them facing the undefeated Carolina Panthers at home. The Saints held a four-point lead with less than two minutes to go before the Panthers scored a touchdown to retake the lead. The Saints were unable to answer, losing by a final score of 41-38.

The Saints (4-8) were led by Drew Brees who completed 24-of-42 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Coleman had six catches for 104 yards and one touchdown, while Mark Ingram rushed 12 times for 56 yards and a score.

Cam Newton led the Panthers (12-0) with 331 yards and five touchdowns on 28-of-41 passing. Greg Olsen finished with nine catches for 129 yards and Ted Ginn hauled in five passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns.

The Saints return to action Sunday in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers. Kickoff is set for noon.
