METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - A woman accused in the killing of Jaren Lockhart was denied a request to move her trial out of Jefferson Parish
Margaret Sanchez appeared in a Jefferson Parish court today where her attorneys tried to persuade a judge that she would not receive a fair trial because of intense publicity of her case.
The defense also tried to quash the indictment asserting there wasn't enough evidence the crime occurred in Jefferson Parish.
Sanchez is accused, along with her ex-boyfriend Terry Speaks, in the dismemberment death of Lockhart. Sanchez and Speaks are accused of killing Lockhart, cutting up her body, which later washed ashore in Mississippi.
The trial, which was scheduled to begin today has been continued.
Speaks, the former boyfriend, is serving a life sentence after a jury in July found him guilty in of Lockhart's death.
